If you had a room designer and a projection screen designer describing the perfect screen, this would be the result. Having the screen built into ceiling gives the designer in you (or in your relationship) a blank canvas to work with. The tensioning system gives the home theatre fan (or again, in your relationship) in you a perfect, distortion-free movie experience. It's a fine blend of cutting edge design and technical performance.

And, as in a relationship, the sum is greater than its parts, because it makes your home cinema so much more enjoyable.

Because you start by leaving behind the discussion about whether you really need that projector and big screen or how you won't even notice it once it's been there for a while. So there are no lengthy negotiations any more. And best of all, no one is losing.  Since there's no longer a need to compromise. You CAN have a top cinema screen AND design your room as you want, without even taking the equipment into consideration.

Plus, you can go from home to home cinema in less than a minute. No lengthy set up, involving portable screens. No sacrifice to image quality by just projecting onto the white wall - just so you can't see the "screen".

Nor do you need to have a dedicated room, because the M-tensioned in-ceiling turns your family room into a private home theater. And don't worry about that projector, we've got a ceiling lift to hide that one too!

Now that the buying experience has become a pleasant experience, let's look at how the fun continues - even before the movie starts.

An easy installation that saves you time and money.

It's OK to spend some time and money to properly install your projection screen. After all, it's going to be there for a while, so getting it correctly installed is step one. And, no matter whether you have a pro do it for you, or you do it yourself, it's so easy... you'll have it up and running in no time.

And, contrary to a lot of other in-ceiling screens, this is one you can install on your own. Really, it's a one man job. No need for an extra pair of hands, even though that does help of course. Just install the brackets first and then hook in the screen. Tighten the screws, and you're done.

There's not much space you need above your ceiling either. If you've got 13.5 cm (just over 5 inches), that's enough. For both the screen and the brackets. This means that even when you don't have a false ceiling, but you want an invisible installation too, you can easily make one, without losing loads of ceiling height.

But if you do have a high ceiling, it's good to know that the tensioning system not only makes the projection area perfectly flat, it also allows a black top border of 100 cm (40 inches) as a maximum.= Because with a large black border, you can have the screen perfectly hidden, yet the viewing height exactly right. So there's no straining your neck to get the best view.

Best of all, you're paying nothing extra, no matter how much black you need on top of the screen. But, be careful, don't take more than you need, because the system only works well when measured precisely. You can still adjust it on site with a margin of 10 cm more or less, so you can set it to perfection once you have the screen in front of you.

So after you breeze through the installation, let's see how we can keep you in your chair.

Control the screen the way you want with our control options - from your lazy chair.

There are many options available besides the standard switch that's provided with the screen. Take your pick from any of these options:

  • Infrared remote (IR)
  • Radio Frequency remote (RF)
  • 12 V trigger
  • Power sensing trigger
  • Key switch
  • Combination of 2 of the above with the Beamax Bridge

All these options are available for the M-tensioned In-ceiling to enjoy your screen even more - with a WOW factor and some extra comfort. And, if you want to automate your whole home with a specific control system, you'll be pleased to know that the screen is compatible with that too.

If you are not sure which one to pick, ask for your copy of our "projection screen control guide" from your reseller or from us directly.

Having chosen how you want to operate your screen, it's now time to impress.

Impress friends and family- over and over again.

It's fun watching your friends and family impressed every time you unroll the screen and the movie fun starts. Because the screen is perfectly hidden, there's nothing in the room giving any clues of what's to come. So the surprise is that much bigger when the massive screen comes rolling down from its hiding place.

You'll love watching them fall silent when the screen comes down, seemingly from nowhere and the movie starts in its full glory. Every bit as sharp and impressive as in a real cinema. And when they know a thing or two about cinema, they'll certainly appreciate the technical qualities of your screen.

The tensioning system that ensures a wrinkle-free surface that guarantees a great picture.

Tensioning systems are the sign of the connoisseur. Because if you have seen a lot of projection screens, you know what matters most: a projection surface that's perfectly flat. Wrinkle-free. Without any distortions. And that's where some projection screens really outshine others.

This is how the Beamax M-tensioned system works:

  1. We start with an aluminium a-symmetrical roller tube. This is the tube onto which the projection fabric is attached. This a-symmetrical tube ensures that there are no "steps" or differences in height that cause horizontal lines.
rollertubes with and without symmetrical roller tubes
symmetrical roller tube a-symmetrical roller tube
  2. We take a high quality fabric that's slightly elastic and can be stretched to become a perfectly flat canvas for your movies
  3. In the lower bar, we add additional weight to tension the screen in a vertical direction by adding a metal rod
  4. On the weight bar, we add two clips that keep the screen fabric stretched
  5. On the sides of the fabric we add pockets, through which a slightly elastic cord is run. This creates vertical tension.
  6. We allow for adjustment of the tension, so you can adjust it when needed.

The combination of these elements creates a perfectly flat projection area that is kept taut by tension working in all directions. And, you have a choice of fabrics to make sure you make the most from your room and your projector.

Projection screen fabrics

When it comes to projection fabric surfaces, there's plenty to choose from. Your option range from matt white to high contrast to micro-perforated acoustic fabric.

No matter which fabric you choose, they all have the characteristics that make it perfect for tensioning and HD: smooth, slightly elastic and perfectly flat.

These are the options available:

  • matt white 1.5 gain
  • matt white 1.2 gain
  • high contrast 1.0 gain, grey
  • micro perforated 1.0 gain, acoustic
  • rear projection 1.0 gain

All these fabrics have a very fine grain. This smooth finish ensures you get the most from your high definition images. Coarse fabrics have a way of interfering with the projected image and thus do not make the most from your HD equipment. If you want to squeeze out every little bit of performance from your kit, then these are the details that matter.

And if you don't have everything in high-def yet, you still get more out of it than you have seen before. This is what Martin Joyce from the UK said about our 1.5 Gain matt white fabric:

“It was like I had bought an new HD projector using my standard def unit.”

There are a lot of options, so make sure you check with your reseller or with us about the right choice.

Sizes and aspect ratio's

The M-tensioned in-ceiling is available up to 365 cm ( 144 inch) viewable width. That's 418 cm / 165 inch diagonal in 16:9 format. So if you really want to impress and you have the room for it, you can go massive.

But it doesn't have to be that big. Most screens have a viewable area that's between 180 to 300 cm, which is perfect for modest to spacious rooms.

We can custom build your screen so it fits your room and projector perfectly. The following popular aspect ratio's can be made:

16:9
4:3
1:2.35

But you don't have to stop there, you can even:

  • Match the cover plate of the screen to exactly match your ceiling's colour by getting a custom finish for it (in either RAL or NCS). This gives you the freedom to choose any ceiling colour, yet have the screen perfectly blend in.
  • Customise the black border height (from 5 cm (2") to 100 cm (40"), so you have your screen at the perfect viewing height, no matter how high your ceiling is.
  • Match the case width to the exact available space, so you can have the biggest screen your room will allow. This ensures that you really get the most out of your room.

And we want you to enjoy your screen to the fullest, which is why we offer you an exceptional guarantee, not found anywhere else.
